Proof of recognition as a Higher Education Institution: I. History In 1933, Donglu University initiated a specialized associate program in medicine; this program has evolved and grown into the Kunming Medical University (KMU) of today. In 1937, the program was expanded and became known as the School of Medicine of Yunnan University, formerly known as Donglu University. In 1956, the School became an independent medical education institution, known as Kunming Medical College. In 1993, Kunming Medical College was listed among the six key higher education institutions in the province. In 2012, the college received accreditation as a full university, and was renamed Kunming Medical University. Since its inception, over 80,000 students have graduated from Kunming Medical University, and it has established itself as the largest specialized medical university in Yunnan and led the way in medical education, scientific research and medical services. II. Campus, Organization and Staff The university campus occupies 109 hectares. It has over 15,000 students, of which more than 2,500 are postgraduate students. The university has 1,582 staff and faculty, and over 566 are professors and associate professors. KMU has 14 schools, offering 4 disciplines in medicine, science, management and social science,24 Bachelor's Degree programs, 42 Master's Degree programs, and a Doctoral Degree program (including 17 fields). It has 7 research institutes, 12 affiliated hospitals, 9 teaching hospitals, 39 practice hospitals, 9 forensic medicine sites, 9 preventive medicine practice sites, 4 pharmaceutical practice sites, and 2 optical practice sites. All of these provide KMU students with a stable learning and practicing network and environment. With a collection of nearly 1,664,400 paper books and 9 digital databases with medical literature in English, the university library has been designated as a part of Yunnan's Central Sharing Library Network of National Literature. It is also a First-class Repository for Chinese Medical and Academic Literature. KMU is a National Trial Center of Clinical Medicine, and Yunnan Provincial Expert Testimony Center. The 12 affiliated hospitals of Kunming Medical University have more than 10,000 patient beds. Eight of them are accredited as being Level-A Tertiary Hospitals of China. Three other affiliated hospitals are specialized in oncology, child’s diseases and stomatology. Yunnan boasts abundant natural resources, which enable KMU to conduct extensive scientific research on varied fields of medicine, such as pharmacology of natural drugs, social and population health, and stem cells. The Academic Journal of Kunming Medical University, owned by KMU, is one of the Chinese core journals of science and technology. KMU is leading in research in medicine and health in Yunnan. Introduction of teaching quality monitoring and improving system Kunming Medical University can benefit the institution’s quality assurance activities if it be the Membership of APQN. Proof of the organisation’s good standing with the local QA agency: Kunming Medical University(KMU) respectively two times was evaluated about the teaching level of undergraduate education by The Education Ministry of China in 2002 and 2007, twice assessment results were excellent. The Stomatology Specialty of KMU passed national professional accreditation in 2013. Two domain of The Rehabilitation Specialty of KMU passed the world professional evaluation by the world federation of occupational therapists(WFOT)in 2010 and the world confedederation for physical therapy in 2011.
