Nominee Application Form: Part C Please write a professional profile of 500 words. Professional Summary Description: I have been involved in quality assurance in South Africa since the early 2000s. Initially I was a member of the team which developed a series of Guides intended to improve the quality of teaching and learning at a national level as part of a national quality capacity building inititiative. Since then, I have been a member of two institutional audit panels, and have also served as a member of the panel reviewing the activities of the Higher Educational Quality Committee, the national quality assurance agency, led by Maria Jose Lemaitre. As Dean, Teaching and Learning at Rhodes University, I am responsible for driving initiatives related to quality and teaching and learning at an institutional level. The Centre which I direct, the Centre for Higher Education Research Teaching and Learning (CHERTL) at Rhodes University is currently also working on a large piece of commissioned research for the HEQC involving a meta analysis of reseach at South African universities. I personally completed the meta analysis of teaching and learning at five research intensive South African institutions early in 2009. I have published on quality related work using a critical/social realist framework. Documents Submitted |
