Professional Summary Description: "Prof.G.Mikunthan is a Professor in Agricultural Biology and serving in the University for the past 30 years in various positions. He is currently serving as Dean of the Faculty of Graduate studies, Director of Centre for Quality Assurance Unit and Director of Well-Being Centre of the University. Being the Director of CQA, he was responsible to prepare the Self Evaluation Reports for the Institutional Review of University of Jaffna. While serving in this position he was instrumental to establish quality culture at the University. Formerly he served as Dean of Faculty of Agriculture. He has been involved in teaching for the past 30 years in the fields of Plant protection. He served as Head of the Department of Agricultural Biology for more than 6 years. He has been teaching students reading to Bachelor¡¯s degree in Agriculture and Bachelor¡¯s degree in Technology (Biosystems Technology). He is serving as the Chairman of Siddha Medicine Board of Management, Research committee and Township Committee. He involved in the Subject Review Team to the evaluation of Export Agriculture degree programme at Uva wellassa University-2013. He also served in the Review team to assess the Institutional Review of Sri Jayewardenepura in 2017. Further he is a member of Program Review of B.Sc in Agriculture of Eastern University of Sri Lanka and serving as the Chair of the Program Review of B.Sc in Agricultural Technology and Management of University of Peradeniya. He is the Principal Investigator of National Thematic Research Program on Food security through National Science Foundation. He has published several research papers both in national and international Journals. He was awarded President Award for best research publication in 2013, National Award for popularization of Science, and Journalism Award for Excellence - 2013 for their series of articles on conserving natural resources and focusing on Environmental Protection by Sri Lanka Press Institute & Editors Guild of Sri Lanka. He is a recipient of Silver Jubilee award for writing Science articles in local newspapers ¡°Uthayan¡± and ¡°Valampuri¡±.
