Professional Summary Description: Dr Jeanette Baird has a background in higher education and public sector management, with research interests in higher education policy, quality assurance and governance. Before joining the new Australian agency for higher education quality assurance, TEQSA, in a senior role, Jeanette was Executive Director and before that an audit director at the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA). She has been audit director for institutional audits of a range of universities, other higher education providers, and government accreditation agencies. In 2007-8 she took a lead role in the establishment of a higher education quality assurance system for the Kingdom of Bahrain, a consultancy project undertaken by AUQA that involved developing standards, systems, operating procedures and manuals and training reviewers and staff. She has conducted other consulting assignments, such as training of reviewers for university accreditation in Vietnam, and has presented at numerous international and national conferences. In 2008, she led a government-funded project to develop a set of national good practice principles for English language proficiency for international students in Australian universities. In 2010 and 2011 she has been a panel member and chair of external institutional reviews in Saudi Arabia and Papua New Guinea. Also in 2010 and 2011, she has advised the Australian Government on the development of new standards for the registration of higher education providers and accreditation of their courses.
