Nominee Application Form: Part C Please write a professional profile of 500 words. Professional Summary Description: My academic career starts from 1981 after obtaining my PhD in Computer Engineering from U of Illinois at Chicago. I taught at North Dakota State University, joined a startup computer company, and taught at Illinois Institute of Technology for a total of 8 years. Returning to Taiwan in 1989, I joined Feng Chia University as department chair, dean of engineering, and became President of the University for 9 years. I was then invited as a director to establish a liberal art school, emphasizing the balance of technology and humanity. The Dharma Drum Institute of Liberal Arts is now officially approved by the Ministry of Education and I also returned to Feng Chia University as a chair professor. I have served as a consultant to various government agencies and as advisory members to many universities. I have also been on committees to evaluate and audit universities. Working with IEET, each year I was assigned 3 or 4 universities to review for accreditation. This year efforts are extended to universities in other countries. For the past 10 years, another emphasis is my participation of nationwide eLearning project, served on accreditation committees at all levels, reviewing course material, curriculum, and degree programs. Sponsored by the Ministry of Education, I am now in charge of the MOOCs project which, with diverse applications in open courses, we could see universities promote education to the next level.
