Nominee Application Form: Part C Please write a professional profile of 500 words. Professional Summary Description: My original academic fields are English literature and the methodology of teaching and learning English as a foreign language. I studied from 1965-1970 at the Germany Universities of Muenster and Tuebingen and acquired my doctorate degree from the University of Muenster. I have 40 years of professional experience at different universities and in various capacities. As a Professor of English I taught Literature (19th and 20th centuries, mainly British and Australian authors) and Methodology, mainly in the fields of listening and reading. Research fields are Action Research and group work in professional contexts. I also served in a number of administrative jobs. I was Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Education in Karlsruhe for four years before becoming President, in which capacity I served from 1990-1992 and again from 2002-2011. At the University of Koblenz I was Dean of the School of Philology for four years. One of my objectives was always institutional development in the direction of internationalisation, both at student and staff levels. I therefore undertook a number of trips abroad and set up several partnerships in the US, Australia and New Zealand. Quality assurance has always been a top priority. My University set up a programme for student feedback of courses, questionnaires at the beginning and after completion of a study programme to evaluate motivation and success of programmes. Moreover a questionnaire for staff achievement was developed, which comprised research, teaching and other criteria, which led to an increase in departmental budgets. The most recent project was undertaken together with two partner institutions, the Hong Kong Institute of Education and the Edith Cowan University in Perth. The three institutions are setting up a joint document in which they compare their respective quality criteria and QA measures. Documents Submitted |
