Professional Summary Description: Now an independent consultant, Marie-Odile Ottenwaelter is also an associated expert to CIEP (a French public institution with a focus on international cooperation in education). Since 2007 to date, she has served on the Board of Directors of INQAAHE (the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education). Since 1989, Marie-Odile has been working in the field of quality assurance for higher education. Previously she had been teaching French (language and literature) for 15 years, both in secondary education and teacher education. From 1989 to 2000, as program manager in CNE (by then the French national QA agency), she was responsible for coordinating the external evaluation of 16 HE institutions and 2 health disciplines across French universities. In the 1990s, she participated in the management group of the European Pilot Projects that led to the creation of ENQA (European network of QA agencies). From 2001 to 2008, working in CIEP as a senior consultant, she was involved in international projects aiming at the development of QA systems at institutional, national and regional levels, especially in the Arab countries around the Mediterranean (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, and Tunisia). She also participated in many workshops in Sub-Saharan Africa (in Burkina Faso, Central Africa, Congo, Gabon, Senegal, and Tanzania). Marie-Odile participated in /or chaired several review panels for institutional evaluations /or accreditations in different countries (Chile, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, and Tunisia). She was also involved in the external review of two national QA agencies (the Hungarian HAC in 2000 and the French CTI in 2009). From 1996 to 2005 she served on the Board of HKCAA (Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation). Now on the Board of Directors of INQAAHE, she is more specifically in charge of liaising with regional and other QA networks. Through all cooperation projects and consultancies for international organizations (such as AUF, the European Commission, UNESCO, the World Bank) Marie-Odile has built up many networking relationships in various parts of the world and has been learning to pay the greatest attention to QA contextual specificities.
