Nominee Application Form: Part C Please write a professional profile of 500 words. Professional Summary Description: I was appointed as the first Director of the Quality Management Unit at the University of Port Elizabeth in South Africa in 1999. In that capacity, I developed the quality assurance manual for the University, focusing on the institutional approach to quality management, and specific policies and procedures for programme design and approval, programme management and programme review and accreditation. At an institutional level, I have designed and coordinated various quality review processes including: The review of the UPE Science Faculty (2001), various quality reviews of Teacher Education programmes offered though distance and open learning (2000, 2005), the review of all coursework programmes offered by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (2006-2009) and also the quality audit of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University by the South African Higher Education Quality Committee in 2008. My current responsibilities include the overall responsibility for the quality management system at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (Note: The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University was formed through the merger of the University of Port Elizabeth and the Port Elizabeth Technikon at the start of 2005). I am an international auditor for the Scottish Quality Assurance Agency, and the Quality Assurance Authority for Education and Training in Bahrain.
