Nominee Application Form: Part C Please write a professional profile of 500 words. Professional Summary Description: I worked at the University of Calgary for 34 years, as an academic and an administrator, who held positions as Department Head, Assistant Dean (Students), Dean of Humanities, and, for 9 years, as Provost and Vice-President (Academic.) As Provost, I wrote the Academic Plan and devised an internal QA process for unit reviews: it contained the typical elements of self-study, engagement of eminent external assessors, and responses to the review team report from the unit and the institution. I also hired the first Associate VP (International) and helped to establish a branch campus for our Nursing Faculty in Doha, Qatar. Since retiring in 2006 as Provost Emeritus, I have been active as a consultant, and among other things have contributed to a Canadian team contracted by the government of Bhutan to help establish a progressive, high-quality teacher education institute there. I am now starting my second 3-year term as Chair of the Campus Alberta Quality Council created the legislation enacted in 2004. We are responsible for the review and monitoring of all new degree programs, undergraduate or graduate, proposed by the public universities, colleges, and polytechnics in the province and by private and non-resident institutions, as well. Among other things, we have created a toolkit for those working internationally: see www.caqc.gov.ab.ca. I would welcome the opportunity to combine my interest in international development with my interest in QA by working with a member of APQN.
